Why buy a RIS from DDI Health?

The answer is simple: we’re neutral, we know radiology, and we know the RIS market. We can assist you in selecting the most appropriate RIS for your business, also offering full support in implementing, configuring, testing and launching your new RIS into production.

What do you need in a RIS?

Today’s market is changing, and your RIS needs may be changing with it. As well as securing the features you require, make sure your shortlisted RIS solutions tick all the technical boxes you need, for now and in the future.

The following questions may help you narrow down the field of RIS options:

Managing the technical essentials

  • Is the RIS web-based? If so, what technology does it use? Is it using the latest version of that technology? (If not web-based, how does it connect? Are you being offered legacy technology?)
  • Does it operate over a Wide Area Network, offering you the opportunity to work remotely or from home?
  • What network bandwidth will it require on site? What about at branch locations?
  • Will it have a minimal impact on the efficiency of your computing system, optimising resource use on your desktop?

Offering the features you want

  • What financial and productivity reports can it export and in what format?
  • What secure report delivery messaging systems does it support? Are these native or third party?
  • What dictation and or voice recognition system is it integrated with?

Integrating with your existing technologies

  • Will it integrate with your PACS? How will this be achieved, at both the desktop and the backend?
  • Does it support the latest desktop operating systems, for example, Windows Vista?
  • Is it integrated with Filmless Image Technology for web-based image delivery to referrers?

Ensuring standards compliance

  • Does it comply with standards such as HL7 and the DICOM Modality Worklist?
  • What HL7 messages does it support?
  • How does it achieve the DICOM Modality Worklist? (Natively or via a third party?)

Monitoring and supporting performance

  • Will its performance be proactively monitored?
  • Who is responsible for maintaining database health? What database does it use?
  • Who is responsible for backing up the environment? How is this done?
  • Can the helpdesk provide sufficient support? What are its hours? What is the ratio of helpdesk staff to client desktops?

Growing your business

  • Can the RIS be adapted to include additional practises? What will this cost?
  • Does it allow you to easily add additional desktops? What will this cost?
  • How do database costs change as your users increase?

Staying at the cutting edge

  • Will this RIS continue to be developed and supported in the future?
  • Can it support virtualisation technologies, which allow you to consolidate your hardware and minimise your downtime? Has such support been provided before?
  • Can it support infrastructure consolidation, such as connection to a Storage Area Network? Has such an approach to data storage been supported previously?

When looking to upgrade your RIS, it pays to select the solution that will best support your needs. If you’d like more information or advice, contact DDI’s customer service team: we can help you to make your RIS decision with confidence.
